Are Seamless Gutters Worth It?

Are Seamless Gutters Worth It?

March 27, 2019

As you prepare to purchase brand-new gutters for your home, you will have a large variety of gutter options from which you can choose. One of those options is sectional versus seamless gutter systems.

Seamless gutter systems are relatively new, at least compared to sectional ones. Gutters had originally only been sold in sections, and were designed in such a way that you could piece them together across the entire length of your roof. You’d then use a special sealant to connect each piece together and prevent water from dripping through the seams as it runs through the gutter. This allowed for easier mass production of gutters, as you could cut them and seal them to fit any space at your home.

Seamless gutters, meanwhile, are cut and molded to length and installed as a single piece on your roof. While they aren’t technically entirely seamless (they need to be sealed at the corners), they do, for the most part, provide a seamless gutter system across the whole length of your house.

Because this sort of system involves a bit more customization, it does come with a larger expense. But is that expense worthwhile? Here’s some information from a gutter contractor in Oklahoma City about some of the biggest benefits associated with going seamless with your gutters:

  • Minimize leaks: The primary reason people opt for seamless gutters over sectional gutters is because the lack of seams means greater protection against leaks in the gutter. This is important because leaking gutters can result in damage to the foundation or to vegetation beneath the gutter systems. Even the most well-constructed seams that have used a lot of sealant to plug up the potential cracks can begin to wear away over time, resulting in leaks forming in a sectional system. You can avoid this issue altogether by simply opting for a seamless system.
  • Fewer blockages: Over time, gutters that have seams can start to have ridges form along the bottom of the gutter at those seams, which can result in backups of small amounts of water. These ridges also make for great areas for passing debris to build up and form blockages, resulting in spillover of water.
  • Appearance: Seamless gutter systems simply look better than sectional gutter systems. Because they’re formed out of a single piece of sheet metal versus having multiple sections cut and connected together, they have a much more uniform, aesthetically pleasing look that can add to the overall curb appeal of your property.

These are just a few examples of why seamless gutter systems are becoming more and more popular among homeowners. Again, you must keep in mind that they come with a higher initial price tag, but the benefits they offer can certainly make these types of gutters worthwhile.
